Sloppy Joe Pizza

4 little Fergusons

Hi there,
My name is Tonya and I am here from 4 little Fergusons to tell you just how EXCITED we are to be the proud owners of a Wonder Mill Junior.

Anyone can use this Handmill with incredible results….

We were amazed at how soft the flour was, and after running it through twice, it made my other pastry flours seem coarse by comparison.

We used a coarse ground wheat flour for the following recipe, and I was afraid it’d make our Pizza Dough dry.  Boy, was I wrong!  It was the best darn pizza crust we have ever made!  All thanks to the Wondermill Junior, and some locally grown wheat to grind.

The recipe I want to share today, is for savory Sloppy Joe meat on a fluffy homemade, whole wheat crust.

Ingredients
  • FOR THE SLOPPY JOES:
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • ½ cups Chopped Onion
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • ⅛ teaspoons Tabasco Sauce
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 12 ounces, fluid Chili Sauce, Divided Use
  • FOR THE PIZZA DOUGH:
  • 1-¾ cup fresh ground Whole Wheat Flour (more If Needed)
  • 1 package (1/4 Oz Packet) Fleischmann's Pizza Crust Yeast
  • 1-½ teaspoon Sugar
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • ⅔ cups Very Warm Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • FOR THE PIZZA:
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 2 cups Fresh Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded Colby-jack Cheese
Instructions
  1. Cook beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until meat is browned and onions are softened. Drain off the grease. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, salt and ¾ of the jar of chili sauce. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 425 F and put your pizza stone in the oven to heat up as the oven heats.
  3. Combine 1 cup flour, yeast, sugar and salt in the bowl of your stand mixer. Stir using the dough hook, then add water and oil and continue mixing until well blended, about 1 minute.
  4. Add additional flour in ½ cup increments until dough is soft, but slightly sticky. Continue kneading it with the dough hook for about 4 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Dump dough onto a floured work surface and roll into a pizza shape, adding more flour if necessary.
  6. Place dough on the hot pizza stone and bake at 425 F for 6 minutes. Remove crust from oven. Drizzle crust with remaining chili sauce and spread it to ½ inch from the edge. Spread meat over the top of the chili sauce, then layer cheddar, mozzarella and colby jack cheese over that.
  7. Slide pizza back into the oven for 6 more minutes to melt cheese.
  8. Serve with a salad! Easy and yummy!

Thanks Wonder Mill for this fantastic opportunity! My family looks forward to sharing more recipes with you in the weeks to come.

You can find her blogging about faith, family, food, photos and fun at www.4littlefergusons.wordpress.com. From Tonya: I had a WONDERFUL experience participating in the Wonder Mill Challenge. I was excited to share the 3 recipes I selected to try with fresh flour on this blog, and my kids were ecstatic to get to help with the actual wheat grinding process. I am not going to lie, I was VERY nervous, that due to it's coarse nature, the whole wheat flour would make my recipes very dry. Boy, was I wrong! It was the most tender, chewy, incredible, bread we have ever made! I know it's because we started with the whole wheat kernel, that it is safe and natural, and the best flour I can offer my family. Wonder Mill Challenge made it easy for me to earn a Wonder Mill Junior Grain Mill, and I am so thankful for the opportunity and am now a proud new Grain Mill owner. :)
