Ginger Snap Cookies

cooking-with-kidsBaking with kids is a fun activity.  Even more fun when you have hand tools to work with.  We made this with our Wondermill Jr delux hand mill to grind the grain and a vintage hand mixer to blend up the butter, eggs and sugar.

3/4 c. soft butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. whole wheat flour
1 dash salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cloves – (if you like cloves you could add 1 tsp for a stronger flavor.)
1 1/2 tsp ginger

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and molasses and beat well. Combine the flours, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and ginger.

Add the dry ingredients and mix until blended.  Scoop dough into teaspoon size balls. Dip the top of the balls into sugar.
